I.                    COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The lab portion of class is designed to fitness test students and assign an exercise program, and retest to note progress.  The lecture portion of class is designed to cover topics related to health and fitness and how fitness relates to health and wellness.  Topics compliment the material being covered in lab.

 

II.                 TEXTBOOK:

Fit & Well: Core Concepts and Labs in Physical Fitness and Wellness by Fahey, Insel & Roth. 8th edition

 

III.               LEARNING OUTCOME:

Students will demonstrate the ability to design an individualized fitness program including appropriate goal setting, principles of safe and effective exercise, principles of progression and overload

 

VI.       GRADING FOR LECTURE: (50% of Course Grade)             Total pts =        300 pts

A.     Tests – Three test each worth 50 points.                                                       150 pts

Unit #1 (Chapters 1,2,3,11)

Unit #2 (Chapters 6,4,8,9)

Unit #3 (Chapters 5,10,12,15)

NO MAKEUP EXAMS will be given without arrangements being

made prior to exam day and without cause.

 

            B. Wellness Worksheets (WW) – 10 Assignments Each worth 5 points                50 pts

                        Assignments will be marked down one point for each day late.

Wellness Worksheets can be accessed online at www.mhhe.com/fahey8e.  Visit the website and select the Online Learning Center Student Edition (bottom left side of screen). Once entering the Online learning center select Wellness Worksheet from menu on the left. Upon completion of the WW print it and bring to class to turn in.  An alternate method of assessment can be provided for students having difficulties with the internet.  Please advise your instructor.

 

            C. Chapter Quizzes – 12 Multiple Choice Quizzes each worth 5 points.               50 pts

                                             2 will be dropped, 10 will be counted

            Quizzes will be available for 3 days ending at 11:55pm on the due date.

Quizzes can be accessed online at www.cgleckner.pageout.net .  Visit the website and register for the site by creating a login and password.  After you have registered you will be able to access the quizzes through the Grade Book in PageOut.  An alternate method of assessment can be provided for students having difficulties with the internet.  Please advise your instructor.

 

            D. Internet Project                                                                                        30 pts

An outline and discussion will be provided in class

            E. Fitness Paper                                                                                           20 pts

            F. Extra Credit For missing 2 or less lecture classes                                        10 pts EC

 

Plagiarism or any other form of academic dishonesty will result in no credit (0 points) on the assignment or examination without an opportunity for make-up.
